Do you know these areas are dangerous in your workplace?

Workplace Safety & Protection / 07 Nov 2022

There are more than 21,000 workplace injuries reported in 2021. You may or may not be aware of many areas in your workplace that are dangerous. Here is a guide that emphasizes the dangerous areas in your workplace and how to resolve them to improve your workplace safety.

1. Racking

The leading cause of racking collapse is mostly due to forklifts. Racking collapse can cause severe injury or even fatal to your workers and a huge amount of loss due to product and equipment damage.

 How to resolve:

Installing a barrier, deflector post, or rack guard is one of the effective ways to prevent forklifts from hitting or colliding with your racks. The barrier will absorb and rebound from massive impacts, reducing the risk of the forklift hitting your racking.

2. Walkways with Moving Vehicles

It’s common for workers to work around moving vehicles in most workplaces. Hence, the risks of accidents, such as forklifts knocking down pedestrians, are also relatively high. Not only pedestrians but forklifts may also collide with other vehicles due to a lack of vision and awareness.

How to resolve:

To avoid forklift collision, a spotlight or proximity alarm can help to alert forklift operators or nearby pedestrians. A proximity alarm will vibrate to alert your worker that the forklift is nearby or approaching. Additionally, a pedestrian barrier can also help protect and separate your workers from moving vehicles. Alternatively, you may also choose to install equipment such as vehicle safety cameras to assist the operator in improving their visibility.

3. Loading Bay

The risks of severe and fatal injury at the loading bay are high due to premature vehicle departure; vehicle creeps, vehicle tip-over, vehicle landing gear collapse, falls, and many more.

How to resolve:

One of many ways to avoid dock accidents is to install a vehicle restraint. A properly engaged restraint prevents the vehicle from unexpectedly pulling away from your loading dock. Additionally, installing a docking control system can help to operate more effectively while enhancing safety by controlling & monitoring the dock.

Though the workplace can be dangerous, different equipment or solutions can reduce the risk of accidents and protect your people and equipment.
